So, I’ve trained in nage, katame, nage ura, katame ura, goshin, go, and itsutsu, as well as some non-Japanese kata, namely the rensa and hikomi no kata, having kaata tested on the first five. Are you tested in these styles?

Kata gets your brain going about how to get yourself out of unwanted kqtame situations. Itsutsu is just for fun but it did teach me how to dive and roll at significant speed and height. Which i’ll be grading for in 10 days. What use did you get from them?

I’d say your Judo becomes more Judo during Kata than Randori or any other form of practice. Greetings, I was wondering if any of you have practice the less well known Katas for Judo?

Mostly it has helped kafa prepare for non competition defense. I have trained nage no kata, katame no kata, and itsutsu as an ongoing part of my judo training Sankyu brown belt.
The guiding principles of Judo are making katsme best use of one’s physical and mental powers as well as mutual welfare.
I feel that it has significantly improved my ground game and the throwing practice is good. Almost forgot, yes I am tested on them. But are great for understanding certain body mechanics and whatnot. The randori no kata, and it’s accompanying ura forms have been tremendously useful in informing the precision and crispness with with I execute many techniques, as well as reinforcing and informing a sense of positional awareness, which helps make all my techniques work.
