I found that while I am a fan of Realism with Wharton and the rest of the gang, I just couldn’t do the Naturalism thing. This book did not fit ME! They begin a life of success after success, but Trina refuses to touch the money she has won, mcetague greedier as their marriage goes on, which begins to cause problems, especially when their luck takes a turn for the frznk.

But his bachelor ways are changed when Trina Sieppe enters his life, the cousin of his one and only friend, and McTeague suddenly finds himself in love. When Marcus recovers, he goes south, intending to become a rancher ; before he leaves, he visits the McTeagues, and he and Mac part apparently as friends. His hands were enormous, red, and covered with a fell of stiff, yellow hair; they were hard a wooden mallets, strong as vises, the hands of the old-time car boy. I consider this book a little-known hidden gem.

I read this book upon Stephen King’s recommendation crank his book “Danse Macabre”. The problem for McTeague and Trina is that they spent too much of their money, they no longer acted. It is fantastic that the site does exist! Norris shows humanity in all of its sickness, its unredeemable ugliness, its inability to escape from its primitive, animalistic roots.
